What We are Doing to Prevent Falls

Fall Prevention Presentation

The PowerPoint presentation outlines fall prevention measures for the home. Every major room of a house is featured, allowing discussion of possible hazards, with suggestions to make the home safer. This is appropriate for any senior, caregiver or civic group. The slides are also featured in the table-top display in the picture.

Fall Prevention Display

Especially designed for health fairs, the display focuses on products to help prevent falls in the home. Readily available and inexpensive items (such as gripper rug liner, nightlight and non-slip tub strips) are shown with information about how to prevent falls. Brochures and/or small incentives may be included.

Senior Safety Bingo

A variation of the traditional game that is a fun and informative way to review home, fire and pedestrian safety. Game cards contain 48 different safety-minded pictures related to older adults. Safety Bingo is a great activity for any senior group, whether at a senior center or community setting. Cards, markers and incentives are included.

Remembering When

A series of three fall and fire prevention classes that combine reminiscence with important safety messages. The curriculum was developed by the National Fire Prevention Association in cooperation with A.A.R.P. and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Schedule one, two or all three of these informative and interactive classes.

Vial of Life

A free and confidential emergency medical information program offered to older residents of Salt Lake County. When participants need to call 9-1-1 from their home phone, dispatchers alert emergency medical workers to personal medical information inside a large medicine bottle, stored in the person’s refrigerator. The connection to 9-1-1 dispatch agencies makes this unique among similar programs.

For more information or to schedule any of these programs, contact Carol Avery call (385) 468-3878 or send an email.
