About Healthy West Jordan:
The Healthy West Jordan Committee is a grassroots effort compromised of volunteer community members, local businesses, and health professionals. This committee works to promote a healthy lifestyle by finding local solutions to local problems. This helps foster a healthy environment for those that work and live in West Jordan City.
The Healthy West Jordan Committee organizes several major events throughout the year.
One project organized by the Healthy West Jordan Committee is the Weigh Biggest Losers of West Jordan Contest. It is 13 week weight loss competition that generally runs from the middle/end of January to the middle/end of April of each year.
This contest is intended to help individuals make lifestyle changes that will improve their health. As individuals in the community take steps to live a healthier life the community as a whole becomes a healthier place to live, work, and play.
Another major event is the Linda Buttars Memorial Fun Run held annually in the month of May. This 5K/10K and 1 mile walk/run provides a great opportunity for the community to come together to be physically active regardless of physical fitness level.
Linda Buttars served on the Healthy West Jordan Committee for 7 years, four of which she was chairperson. She took on the responsibility for the “Decked in Red” Family Run and Walk, which began as an effort to increase physical activity and exercise for individuals and families, after its first year. Under her coordination, the event increased by 100 participants each year and has become the huge success that it is today.
Linda passed away on November 4, 2006. The City Council approved a Resolution renaming the “Decked in Red” Family Run & Walk to be the “Linda Buttars Memorial Fun Run”.
The Healthy West Jordan Committee has strived to maintain low entrance fees for the Fun Run further promoting this as a family and community event.
