Biological Agents
This section provides basic information on biological agents that may potentially be used by terrorists as weapons or present a major health threat.
The following biological agents are classified as Category A (highest concern) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) because they have the potential for major public impact and are known to have been studied by some countries for use in biological warfare.
- Anthrax
- Botulism
- Plague
- Smallpox
- Tularemia
- Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers
- The following types of influenza (flu) could present a major health hazard.
- Avian Influenza
- Pandemic Influenza
